This
is a TED talk video presented by Dr. Lydia Machova from Slovenia. Currently Lydia works as a language mentor and
famous speech deliver. Most of her
speeches address the know-how suggestions to learn a new language or how to
overcome the difficulties of learning the language you used to think hard to
break through. One of the convincing
reasons is because of her outstanding talent for mastering 9 different
languages, known as one member of polyglots (people who speaks a lot of
languages).
The topic is entitled as “The secret of
learning a new language”, where Lydia shares her thoughts on how an ordinary
people like you and me to master a foreign language in many creative ways. She
shared some personal short but impressive cases from her polyglot society, such
as Benny’s online speaking-up strategy with the target-language native speakers
without being bothered by making mistakes, the typing-chat on FB with Russian
native speakers of Lucas from Brazil, or her own language experiences of
picking up her favorite book in Spanish version or watch her favorite TV show
in German.
Lydia comes to a conclusion that they all
found their own unique way to enjoy the process, turn language learning from a
boring school subject into a pleasant activity which you don’t mind doing every
day. She stresses, “it is really crucial to find enjoyment in the process of learning
language, but also that the joy in itself is not enough…”
So, what is the change of your mindset on
language learning after watching this Ted video?
